Nothing communicates to my heart like a painting with the African feel! The vibrant and dynamic paintings that always reflects my culture and even emotion! I am one person who gets inspired by what I see, touch, feel, think and remember. East Africa is my place of origin but Middle East has allowed me the opportunity to appreciate and treasure my culture, particularly African art!
People have always defined African art as “primitive” but after scanning through sites and comparing paintings from Africa and those from other parts of the world, one thing is certain- artists from Africa paint to represent their heritage, identity and culture. Some have even gone an extra mile to address issues unique to our modern times through their paintings, while others are now influencing Modern art, especially among the expressionist painters.
From the few pieces I own and those that I have seen, I can confidently say that African paintings beautifully convey the creativity, dreams and imagination of our people.
Have you seen an African painting depicting the pain and struggles of an African mother? Or the bold and vivid mountain, plateau and animal paintings that make you want to travel to Africa to witness the splendour portrayed in the paintings?
Pieces of paintings from a renowned Kenyan wildlife artist, WYCLIFFE NDWIGA {BIO} have always been my all-time favourite, the realness, clarity and message they convey is just beyond! The paintings bring out a certain joy and desire of Kenya. For a moment they make me want to go home and interact with nature and wildlife. No matter where I am, his paintings always bring me home…!
Winding up, I would say that African paintings are the only Universal Language of communication I have come to know!
I hope this post inspires you to treasure your culture.
Just in case you are out there wondering how to communicate with someone close to your heart….a personalized painting that depicts your culture would go a long way 🙂
Lots of Love
